Giving digest:  Many years ago, Twesigye Jackson Kaguri dreamt of lifting his community out of poverty. This dream birthed Nyaka, a nonprofit organization that is entirely dedicated to improving the lives of orphans, especially in Southwestern Uganda in the Districts of Kanungu and Rukungiri. Nyaka has grown steadily over the last two decades, gaining supporters from all over the world as it continues to transform lives every day.

Giving Digest:  In the relentless battle against HIV/AIDS in Uganda, the impact of preventive measures cannot be overstated. Cognizant of this, the Together Alive Health Initiative (TAHI) through its partners made a generous donation of 5,000+ condoms to the residents of Kalangala to control and reduce the spread of HIV/AIDs.

Giving Digest: Going beyond academic achievements, St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), a reputable boys' high school in Uganda, is nurturing a generation of altruistic young men. Through the school chapter of Liberalis Audientis, formed three years ago in response to post-COVID-19 challenges, including economic constraints and mental health issues, students recently contributed supplies to patients at Butabika Hospital, Uganda’s primary mental health referral hospital.

Giving Digest: The Rotaract Club of Mengo in Partnership with the Rotaract Club of Kamala Kibuli donated several items to the children housed at the Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida Initiative in Bunono, Entebbe in Wakiso District.

Spina bifida and Hydrocephalus are neural tube defects in which an opening in the spine remains open during early development in pregnancy.

SOMA Foundation is a Ugandan Non-profit Organization reaching out to various students, employees, and self-employed individuals and rallying them together around common values to address societal-wide problems through developmental programs like increasing access to holistic Education, career guidance, and counseling empowering youths with poverty eradication skills, provision of safe water, food items and relief services among other initiatives.

Giving Digest: Rotary International is a worldwide organization of people who raise money and other resources to serve their communities. One of Rotary International's thematic areas is to promote maternal and child health. In line with that theme, Rotarians in Uganda have procured a total of twenty-eight tricycle village ambulances to support vulnerable expectant mothers in rural communities to access health services with ease.

Giving Digest: Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU) is an organization that unites all nursing and midwifery practitioners in Uganda, with a vision of contributing to its members' socio-economic welfare and delivery of quality health services.

As of last year 2022, the infant mortality rate for Uganda was 40.564 deaths per 1000 live births. Dire as the situation seems, it’s a call to address the problems that lead to high mortality rate in Uganda.

Giving Digest: MTN Uganda, in collaboration with the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association, has extended its 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign by making a valuable contribution to the Bumu Disability Development Association in Luwero District. The donation includes various equipment worth UGX 20 million, enhancing the association's capabilities and positively impacting the community. This year's campaign, lasting 25 days instead of the usual 21, commemorates MTN Uganda's 25 years of transformative work in the country.

Giving Digest: The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in Kampala, Uganda, organized the 2023 edition of the Seven Hills Run, a 21-kilometer race, and successfully collected over 948 million shillings. The funds raised through this event will be used to support social causes, particularly focusing on keeping the girl child in school.

Giving Digest; In the past year, the FlexiPay team at Stanbic Bank Uganda provided assistance to the Suubi School in Masaka, which is affiliated with the Watoto Schools. In continuation of their commitment, a delegation from Stanbic Bank visited the community and held discussions with Dr. Ibrahim, the In Charge at the Health Facility. Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that with the appropriate knowledge, some of the cases they deal with could be managed at home by the mothers in the community.

Giving Digest: The Easter Teen Mom Charity, organized under the #UgLoveMovement, extended support to 122 teenage mothers and 40 babies in central Uganda. Led by Asiimwe Angella, the charity drive aimed to provide basic needs, psychosocial support, and legal aid to teenage mothers and orphans across the country. The initiative began with Angella donating various items to four orphanages in Kabale district, benefiting institutions like the Shepherd's Center, House of Hope Orphanage, and Rugarama Hospital.

Giving Digest: In southwest Uganda, the Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project is making a significant impact on the lives of thousands of grandmothers and vulnerable children. Their initiative supports 15,000 grandmothers across three districts, who have taken on the responsibility of caring for over 60,000 orphaned or abandoned children, including their own grandchildren.

TotalEnergies is set to improve road safety as part of the United Nations Global Road Safety Week with the launch of its "Helmet 4 Life" initiative. This project, in collaboration with local affiliates and the TotalEnergies Foundation program, aims to distribute 100,000 motorcycle helmets across 40 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, where fatal road accidents involving motorized two-wheelers account for 28% of global road fatalities and can reach over 75% in certain nations.

Vivo Energy Uganda has taken a step towards enhancing road safety for schoolchildren with the relaunch of its ‘Heads Up’ initiative. The campaign focuses on addressing the alarming rate of road traffic injuries and fatalities involving children, particularly those who use motorcycles, locally known as ‘boda-bodas’, to commute to school. As part of the initiative, child-specific safety helmets are donated to school-going children, providing them with much-needed protection during their daily journeys.

The 10th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run, sponsored by Airtel, took place in Uganda with a record-breaking participation of over 100,000 people. The run, which started in 2013, has previously focused on addressing health issues such as fistula and sickle cell disease.

Mr. Marvin Baryaruha, the West Ankole Diocesan chancellor, organized a donation event through his Baryaruha Foundation. A total of 1,700 copies of textbooks were distributed to 38 primary schools and 18 secondary schools in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality.

The Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is grappling with patients abandoning treatment due to financial constraints. High transport and feeding expenses have become significant barriers for many individuals seeking cancer treatment at the institute. In response to this pressing issue, well-wishers have stepped forward to extend their support.
