Change Ready

Change Ready is a CivSource program on Leadership Transition and Succession.

CivSource Africa recognizes that transitions are key moments and turning points in all institutions. CivSource supports organizations to proactively plan, manage and absorb the shocks that arise from both expected and unexpected transitions.
Succession planning lets nonprofits respond to strategic changes that create new leadership needs or roles and be prepared for transitions when necessary. This embeds leadership development as a core organizational system, rather than as an ad hoc process, so that organizations are ready for inevitable change.

Welcome to the groundbreaking Footprints Podcast, a vibrant series honouring the remarkable legacies of influential elders. Anchored in the study conducted by CivSource Africa on Executive Transitions and Succession planning, our commitment in response to the study recommendations is to document and tell stories of change, transition, and succession among leaders within the sector and beyond. The process seeks to glean lessons from those who have led and served before us.

Hosted by the esteemed CEO of CivSource Africa, Jacqueline Asiimwe, this platform brings to life the diverse stories of revered personalities like Mama Rhoda Kalema, Dr. Miria Matembe, James Tumusiime, Alex Mukulu, and more. With meticulous attention to storytelling and inspiration, each episode intricately weaves interviews, recollections, and expert commentary, delving deep into the essence of these unique lives. Beyond recounting histories, the podcast illuminates the challenges, triumphs, and wisdom of its subjects. Complementing the auditory journey, an E-book will immortalize these stories in written form. Distributed across major platforms like Spotify, Bullhorn, Anchor, and CivSource Africa's YouTube channel, the series aims to inspire, educate, and connect audiences worldwide.

Join us on this journey of celebration, tribute, and collective action as we honour those who've paved the way and reflect on the legacies we aspire to leave behind.

This study analyses various case studies on executive leadership transition and succession planning in selected NGOs in Uganda. It also provides an opportunity for reflection and learning for NGOs that have undergone leadership transition and succession processes in Uganda and those that have not. Read more

Celebrating Legends

In the early afternoon of Friday September 1st, my stomach was in a knot. I was at Protea Hotel where my team had organized an event to celebrate, recognize and appreciate elders from different backgrounds ranging from civil service, civil society, academia, and politics. I was anxiously awaiting our honoured guests. I wondered if they would come. I wondered if we had made a mistake to invite them for an event on a Friday afternoon knowing the heavy traffic that is a common feature in Kampala on Fridays. I wondered if they would find the event worth their while and befitting of their stature. Read more

A Gathering of Luminaries

Imagine the scene at the recent High Tea event hosted by CivSource Africa – an event where the past and the present brilliantly collided. As one guest mused, ‘Where have all these people been? I thought I was the only old person left...’ This exclusive gathering brought together luminaries from various walks of life – past activists and celebrated artists. It was a momentous occasion where we had the privilege to interact with the creator of the Independence Monument and the artist behind the postage stamps of yesteryears. Nostalgia filled the air as these venerable leaders took us on a journey through their rich experiences. Read More
