NYAKA MARATHON 2023: A RUN FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN SOUTHWESTERN UGANDA.

Giving digest:  Many years ago, Twesigye Jackson Kaguri dreamt of lifting his community out of poverty. This dream birthed Nyaka, a nonprofit organization that is entirely dedicated to improving the lives of orphans, especially in Southwestern Uganda in the Districts of Kanungu and Rukungiri. Nyaka has grown steadily over the last two decades, gaining supporters from all over the world as it continues to transform lives every day.

Nyaka focuses on vulnerable children, and empowering local elderly women in the community. To this end, Nyaka provides schooling, medical care, food, clean water systems, and other community services to the vulnerable. Thousands of students have over the years, and a network of elders has grown to over 20,000 women who have committed to look after over 80,000 orphans.

To advance its work, Nyaka has held fundraiser marathons since 2018. This year’s marathon was conducted on November 5th, 2023, in partnership with NYC Marathon with the purpose of pooling funds to support the vulnerable children in southwestern Uganda. What sets the New York City Marathon apart is not just its status as the world's largest marathon but also its remarkable impact as a charitable event. This renowned race attracts tens of thousands of participants and spectators globally, each championing diverse missions and causes. To secure a coveted spot in this highly competitive race, runners must commit to supporting a charity, making it a powerful enabler and platform for philanthropy.
