UNMU DONATES TO IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTHCARE

Giving Digest: Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU) is an organization that unites all nursing and midwifery practitioners in Uganda, with a vision of contributing to its members' socio-economic welfare and delivery of quality health services.

As of last year 2022, the infant mortality rate for Uganda was 40.564 deaths per 1000 live births. Dire as the situation seems, it’s a call to address the problems that lead to high mortality rate in Uganda. One of the challenges that lead to maternal and infant mortality in Uganda is underequipped Health facilities.

To mark the International Nurses and Midwifery Day that happens every year in May, the Union donated to Kitgum General Hospital several items worth millions ranging from baby weighing scales, neonatal and infant resuscitation bags, headlamps, sterile equipment, temperature guns, and thermometers among others.

While handing over the supplies on Tuesday, the union's national organizing secretary Peter Habi Harimana revealed that the donation is geared towards supporting medical workers to improve maternal healthcare service delivery at the facility.
