10TH EDITION OF KABAKA BIRTHDAY RUN MARKS SHIFT TO HIV/AIDS AWARENESS

The 10th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run, sponsored by Airtel, took place in Uganda with a record-breaking participation of over 100,000 people. The run, which started in 2013, has previously focused on addressing health issues such as fistula and sickle cell disease. This year, the run shifted its focus to the fight against HIV/AIDS following Kabaka's appointment as Africa's Goodwill Ambassador in the fight against the AIDS epidemic by UNAIDS. The event, held in Buganda's capital, Mengo, marked Kabaka Ronald Muwenda II's 68th birthday. The run, known for its mass participation and absence of prizes, aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and encouraged people to get tested and know their status. I&M Bank also participated in the event, demonstrating their commitment to supporting social causes and making a positive impact in society.

The Kabaka emphasized accountability and action in his remarks, renewing the commitment to supporting the well-being of those with HIV/AIDS. The run aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030. Airtel Uganda's Managing Director highlighted the importance of a healthy workforce and the company's dedication to supporting partnerships that address health barriers. The event received appreciation from the Buganda Kingdom leadership, emphasizing the importance of a healthy population and the positive impact of the run's previous editions in reducing disease burdens. Airtel Uganda has also renewed its partnership with the Buganda Kingdom to support various activities and initiatives that improve the livelihoods of the people in the region.
