Soul Foundation Uganda and MTN Uganda joined hands to enable Butabika national referral mental hospital get new lavatories for their patients and the staff.

The development coincided with global commemoration of the World Mental health day which was celebrated on the 10th of October 2021. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this year’s theme was “Mental health care for all: let’s make it a reality”.  The subject of mental health received more activism than the previous years before the global pandemic.

Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital has been a key player highlighting the plight of mental health in Uganda. The facility’s position as a national referral mental hospital comes with opportunities and challenges. One of the demands placed upon the facility had been need for better toilet facilities.

Soul Foundation Uganda, an organization that seeks to unlock human potential identified the need and opted to intervene.

Aware of the resources, they needed to achieve their objective, Soul Foundation Uganda reached out to MTN Uganda and presented their request through a story proposal. While their request was for 11 lavatory units, they kept their expectations low, hoping to receive at least 2 lavatory units. MTN Uganda went the whole nine yards and approved the entire request for all 11 units!

After consultation with the Kampala City Council Authority, Soul Foundation Uganda received the approval and training they required to deliver and operationalize the lavatory units at Butabika Mental facility.

We celebrate Soul Foundation’s generosity towards mental health. It is a gift that will keep giving.
