The Inaugural Africa Fiscal Hosting Convention: Dar es Salaam May 9 & 10, 2024

“Shaping the Future of Fiscal Hosting in Africa”

CivSource South Africa convened the inaugural Africa Fiscal Hosting Convention, gathering over 80 diverse fiscal hosting practitioners, beneficiaries, and donor organizations in Dar es Salaam.

Fiscal hosting is a practice where established non-profit organizations (fiscal hosts) provide their legal and financial infrastructure to support groups or organizations lacking formal legal status or administrative capacity. This enables these groups to operate under the host's non-profit and legal umbrella, allowing them to focus on their mission while leveraging the host's financial management, governance, compliance, and fundraising systems.

Objectives of the Convention:

  • Knowledge-sharing: Facilitate the exchange of insights, experiences, and innovative approaches.

  • Strategic Organising: Identify shared challenges and opportunities for improving fiscal hosting services and practices in Africa.

  • Networking and Solidarity: Forge connections and collectively envision the role of fiscal hosting in advancing non-profit sustainability and social justice.

It represented a landmark opportunity to reflect on the key challenges and opportunities for fiscal hosting in Africa, share experiences, chart a course towards more significant impact and sustainability, and lay the foundation for a more equitable and resilient funding ecosystem on the continent.

The convention forms part of CivSource South Africa’s current research efforts on fiscal hosting in Africa, including mapping African fiscal hosting organisations, in an unchartered and much needed field for data and information.
