Giving Digest: Hike4Girls Crosses Borders to Support Girls in Tanzania
What began as a simple idea to help girls stay in school with dignity during menstruation is growing beyond Uganda. On 2 August, friends of The Brighter Binti Foundation organised their second Hike4Girls event in Tanzania, bringing together 38 hikers around menstrual health and girls’ education.
Through the hike, 246 menstrual pads were donated, including 200 reusable pads and 46 disposable pads. Contributions from other stakeholders added another 2,448 disposable pads, bringing the total to 2,694 pads. The initiative shows how communities can carry an idea across borders and turn collective action into practical support that helps girls remain in school.
What becomes possible when communities take a giving idea from one place and make it their own?
