Giving Digest | Old School Ties Still Give

On 15 August, about 2,200 people returned to the road for the second edition of the Tambula Mengo Run, bringing together students, alumni, parents, religious leaders and friends of Mengo Senior School around one shared purpose: helping the school build for the generations coming after them.

At the heart of the run is a very practical need. Mengo Senior School’s current dining facility can accommodate about 600 students against a student population of roughly 900. The run forms part of a wider fundraising effort towards a new nine-storey block that will include a larger dining hall and additional learning spaces. There is something powerful about a community returning to a place that once gave to them and asking, in turn, what can we give back?

What would change if more of us returned to the places that shaped us with something to give?
