Giving Digest | When the Journey Home Becomes a Gift

More than 280 volunteers travelling over 300 kilometres. Three days of community service. Thousands of people accessing essential healthcare and support in Sheema District.

From 4 to 6 September 2026, the Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA) brought its 12th Annual Caravan to Nyabwina Parish in Sheema District. Building on the collective effort of the AMDA Caravan Run, members, healthcare professionals and partners mobilised their time, skills and resources to provide free medical care, cancer screening, legal assistance, education support and other services to underserved communities.

The outreach brought specialised healthcare closer to residents who would otherwise travel considerable distances for treatment. Patients received free consultations, medication, eyeglasses and mobility support, while others were referred for further care. The initiative also highlighted the importance of early cancer detection, including prostate cancer screening, and drew support from partners contributing medicines, professional expertise and other resources.
