Giving Digest | A Legacy of Love, Remembered Through Giving
Three years after losing their son, a family in Uganda is keeping his memory alive through acts of generosity that bring comfort to children undergoing cancer treatment.
At the end of October 2026, Julia Karungi and her family visited Bless a Child Foundation, donating toys, building blocks, colouring books and other play materials to children receiving treatment. For the previous two years, the family had commemorated their son's life through blood donation drives. This year, they chose to honour his third death anniversary by bringing moments of joy to children and families navigating difficult circumstances.
Founded by Brian Walusimbi, Bless a Child Foundation provides accommodation and support for children undergoing cancer treatment and their caregivers. According to Julia, the foundation now operates more than five homes across Uganda, helping families remain together throughout lengthy treatment journeys. Her family's gesture speaks to a form of generosity rooted in remembrance, where personal loss becomes an enduring commitment to caring for others.
