GIVING DIGEST: Running for Ankole, Running for Change
The Mbarara City Marathon, happening this Saturday, March 29, is more than just a race, it’s a powerful blend of giving, culture, and community. With four race categories (42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km), the event invites thousands to run not just for fitness, but for purpose.
Organized by Gaga Athletics Events Ltd, the marathon aims to:
Support needy children under the Gaga Kids Foundation by restoring their dignity through access to education and healthcare.
Celebrate the Ankole region’s cultural and natural beauty, from its iconic long-horned cattle to the rich heritage and landscapes near Lake Mburo National Park.
“This is more than a marathon,” says Dickens Friday Kaka, the event lead. “It’s a way for Ugandans to engage with their community through sports tourism and giving.”
Supported by leaders like Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari, the event is expected to bring together over 5,000 runners of all ages, from elite athletes to fun-run enthusiasts.
Whether you’re running, cheering, or giving, this is Ankole’s moment to shine.
