Kampala 7 hills Run: Absa Bank for Girl-Child Education

Giving Digest: On Sunday, March 17th, 2024, a multitude of Ugandans gathered in Kampala for the Absa Bank Kampala 7 Hills Run, aimed at raising funds for girl-child education. Promoted with the hashtag #RunHerRace, the event attracted diverse participants from various backgrounds, totaling 5,000 individuals, including representatives from 60 corporate entities who partnered to ensure its success.

Recognizing the importance of education as a fundamental right, both nationally and internationally, it is imperative that every child has access to quality education to unlock their full potential. However, numerous obstacles, primarily stemming from resource shortages, impede this access. Among these challenges, the girl-child faces additional barriers unique to her gender.

Following the release of the UACE Exams in March 2024, Dan Odongo, the Executive Director of the Ugandan National Examinations Board (UNEB), highlighted that female candidates, despite being fewer in number, outperformed their male counterparts. This underscores the importance of recognizing and nurturing the equal potential of female children alongside their male peers.

During the run, Absa Bank Group expressed gratitude for the partnerships and solidarity demonstrated, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts in promoting corporate sustainability and advancing a shared vision for a better future.

True corporate sustainability comes from partnerships that are built on shared values and a common vision for a better future."

Through initiatives like the Absa Bank Kampala 7 Hills Run, Absa Bank has joined various stakeholders in addressing critical socio-economic needs in Uganda. Kudos to Absa Bank for their commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
