CoRSU's Inaugural Charity Walk for Disability Awareness.
On Sunday, October 6, 2024, Uganda took a significant step toward inclusivity as Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for People with Disability in Uganda (CoRSU) hosted its first-ever charity walk. The event, starting at 6: 00 AM from the MUBS Sports Ground, featured both 5km and 10km walks aimed at inspiring hope and raising awareness for people with disabilities. With the hashtag #WalkForGood, the walk symbolized compassion and support for this important cause.
Over one thousand participants turned out for the event, made possible by partners like Vivo Energy Uganda. With registration kits starting at just UGX 30,000, the walk drew widespread community participation, all united to highlight the challenges faced by people with disabilities and to mobilize greater support for their empowerment.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Hon. Hellen Grace Asamo, Minister of State for Disability Affairs, who served as Guest of Honour. Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, State Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, along with CoRSU’s board members and staff, were also in attendance.
CoRSU has been a beacon of hope, providing life-changing surgical and rehabilitation services for people with disabilities in Uganda. Their holistic approach focuses not just on physical healing, but also on restoring independence and dignity.
While flagging off the 5km walk, Hon. Asamo emphasized the ongoing need to empower people with disabilities, highlighting CoRSU's crucial role in this mission. With 12.4% of Uganda’s population living with a disability, this #WalkForGood was more than just a walk it was a step toward building a more inclusive future for all.
