KCB BANK UGANDA COMMISSIONS A UGX 30 MILLION WATER HARVESTING PROJECT

KCB Bank Uganda recently completed a water harvesting project at Gobero Primary School in Yumbe District as part of its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). The $30 million Uganda Shillings project was intended to improve access to clean water for 1,500 school-aged children and the surrounding refugee community. The project, according to Michael Ssekyondwa, Head of Retail Banking at KCB Bank Uganda, is in line with the bank's CSR agenda and the United Nations' 6th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which seeks to increase water-use efficiency and ensure a consistent supply of fresh water to address water scarcity.

The project included the purchase of two 5,000-liter stainless steel tanks to provide a reliable source of clean water for the school and surrounding community. Ssekyondwa emphasized the significance of such initiatives in addressing water scarcity and promoting socioeconomic growth within the KCB Bank Uganda communities.

Tumwesigye John Bosco, Yumbe District RDC, expressed his delight at the completion of the water harvesting project and thanked KCB Bank Uganda for its assistance, both in terms of financial services and CSR initiatives. He pointed out that, while national access to water in Uganda is 70%, access in Yumbe District is only 50%. He urged the community to work together towards saving money, growing food, and preserving the natural environment.
