The Rotary Club of Kasangati partners with Harris International for two school blocks.
“Community transformation is at the core of who we are and what we do. This will not be the last project. There we will be more to come,”
The Rotary Club of Kasangati, partnered with Hariss International, a private food and beverage manufacturing company to construct two classroom blocks for Shared Love Junior School in Makukuba. The project started in 2015 to give back to a school that had tremendously contributed to the Makukuba community. The school was not only serving the pupils in the primary school section, but also served students undergoing vocational training as well as hosting medical camps for the community.
The school was officially launched on 19th November 2021 a day before the World Children’s Day. The school blocks will be able to accommodate about 150 children from primary one to seven. The Public Relations Manager of Harris International, Rachael Luwedde emphasized Harris International’s intention to support and give back to the community that has supported the business’s growth. She added that the company’s goals and objectives superseded providing quality food and beverages and included providing the community’s and country’s holistic growth.
Hariss International injected over 100 million in the projects while the Rotary Club of Kasangati contributed to the construction of the first classroom block and installed window frames and glasses and door frames to the classroom blocks.
The construction of school blocks for Shared Love Junior School has not been an isolated act of generosity by the Rotary Club of Kasangati. The club has over time exhibited a passion for education and children through many other projects it has undertaken. The Rotarians of Kasangati have provided geometry sets to five schools in Wakiso District while the pupils prepared for their Primary Leaving Exams and donated books to over 100 schools in Uganda’s central region. It also launched the Adopt a Village campaign that has seen them construct a school with offices for the teaching staff.
Speaking at the event, Chadi. K. Ahmad, the Director of Harris said the growth of the Riham brand has enabled them to empower communities across the country.
“Community transformation is at the core of who we are and what we do. This will not be the last project. There we will be more to come,” he said.
While this may be true for Harris International, it is also certainly true for the Rotary Club of Kasangati. The club has made a contribution in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
