QWESHUNGA FOR A CAUSE

The term Qweshunga has its roots in a Runyankore word “Okweshunga” which literally translates to “to play”. Qweshunga is a social enterprise that provides an inspirational and safe space for adults to play to improve their learning, healing and lives. The enterprise, led by Penelope Sanyu hosts an annual Qweshunga event every Independence Day on 9th October.

This year’s Qweshunga day was held on 9th October at the Uganda Museum in Kampala city. The event provided a space where individuals and corporates come together to have fun and play for a cause. The games at the event included water relays, board games, trampolines and bouncing castles among others. Each participant was required to pay a registration fee which went towards advancing the causes of building a library and giving to 40 Days over 40 Smiles (4040), a Kampala based youth-led charity organisation that is committed to helping vulnerable children and communities to access quality, all-round education support and entrepreneurial training aimed at self-sustainability.

The contributions went towards building a library, giving to 4040 for the donation of books for children supported by 4040. The event saw 200 participants both individuals and corporates attending to have fun and give towards this cause.
