STANBIC BANK gives to mothers in Kawempe

“We believe mothers are nation builders and any support given to them would go a long way in building Uganda.”

Stanbic Bank Uganda in partnership with other well-wishers donated medical mama kits worth Ugx. 35,500,000/= (Thirty-five million five hundred thousand Uganda Shillings) to Kawempe Referral Hospital. This generous gesture was done as part of Stanbic’s end-of-year Corporate Social Investment Programme and as a contribution to the ongoing “Every Mother Counts” campaign.

The campaign is the joint effort of several other organizations and well-wishing individuals whose aim is to improve maternal health in Uganda and reduce the maternal mortality rate. Barbara Kasekende, the Stanbic Bank Corporal Social Investment Manager handed over the items on November 06, 2021. While handing over the items, she shared the reason behind the bank’s giving.

“We believe mothers are nation builders and any support given to them would go a long way in building Uganda.”

The reason for the bank’s interest in this cause was further informed by Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3) whose aim is to accelerate the decline of maternal mortality by 2030.  According to Kikuubo Online, a site that covers news within the private sector, Stanbic Bank had made an earlier donation of twenty-four million Uganda Shillings and partnered with Rotary International towards the same cause in September this year.

Kawempe Referral Hospital has been the targeted recipient of these donations due to the voluminous number of expectant mothers it receives and because it has the highest recorded maternal mortality rate according to a survey undertaken in 2019/2020 by the Annual Health Sector Performance Report.

Corporate philanthropy is not a lone walk. Partnerships and teamwork are key in delivering the change that corporations desire to achieve in their communities.
