Generosity is intentional - Uganda Blood Transfusion Services recognises Airtel Uganda for the R.E.D Campaign

Airtel Uganda had provided 1500 units of blood by the end of the first quarter of 2021.

People generally aren't used to kindness from strangers. Most of us are too wrapped up in our lives to pay much attention to anyone else. That's why it's so striking when strangers do something unexpected. Even the smallest actions can have an impact. With some people, though, the well of generosity runs deep. They do incredible things to improve other lives, going the extra mile in unexpected ways.

Airtel Uganda is no stranger to generosity. To give, the firm has organized a blood drive to collect donations for the national blood bank. Airtel introduced the 'BE RED' campaign in 2014, which stands for Be Responsible, Empathetic, and Do It. The campaign's goal was to educate the public about the country's diminishing blood supply and the role that each Ugandan might play in resolving this health catastrophe. Blood donation has since been a feature of the telecom's Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives.

Blood donation campaigns were hampered during the lockdowns and the subsequent time owing to limitations on gatherings, which resulted in the cancellation of several of these blood donation programs. The limitations aimed to protect the public against COVID-19 while also limiting the virus's spread.

In light of this, Airtel Uganda, in collaboration with UBTS, launched an awareness campaign to inform eligible blood donors about the chance to be lifetime donors. Airtel Uganda had provided 1500 units of blood by the end of the first quarter of 2021. Airtel Uganda has also continued to mobilize well-wishers around the country to give blood through its R.E.D campaign, with some donors donating up to three times each year.

“Donating blood can save a life, as blood is a precious gift and Airtel’s decision to create avenues for blood donors from all backgrounds to take part in the cause, gives an assurance of having the right blood available for patients who need it, given its increasing demand for maternal centers, cancer patients and all those who are undergoing surgery.” _ UBTS Principal Blood Donor Recruiter and National Blood Donation Coordinator Mr. William Mugisha

Uganda Blood Transfusion Services commended Airtel Uganda on June 14th, World Blood Donor Day, for mobilizing consumers and well-wishers across the country to give blood through their RED Campaign.

Generosity, like art, has never run out of forms of expression!
