During the lockdown in Uganda, Chemutai rallied her virtual friends to raise money for a patient who was stuck at Nsambya hospital after failing to raise UGX 1,600,000 in unpaid hospital bills.

“A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle” is a common adage and it is one of the most powerful statements that communicates an important truth that is derived from experience that is considered credible.

One generous lady who has been pivotal to online charity drives in a Facebook group, posted about a friend that needed help to access medical attention.

Martha Chemutai, who is an admin of a famous Facebook group called Rebel Parents, posted on her wall, asking her virtual friends to raise funds to enable her friend access quality medical care because she was unable to work due to illness and fend for both her family and her employees.

“Banange, I need help. I have a friend who is self employed and is not well. She does not have energy because her system has just failed her and has not been working for a very long time. She gets black outs, runs out of energy, her body gets sweaty and is sleepy through out. All she can afford is running malaria and typhoid tests. She needs to go for general check up but is struggling to raise funds for this process.

Bambi if you have some extra cash to spare, please help her, let me know and I will share my mobile phone, even 5k makes a whole difference.

Many respondents offered to contribute money to the cause. And indeed, they did. UGX 250,000 was raised and shared with the anonymous friend to seek medical help.

Chemutai and her friends have been pivotal in fundraising money to help needy communities.

During the lockdown in Uganda, Chemutai rallied her virtual friends to raise money for a patient who was stuck at Nsambya hospital after failing to raise UGX 1,600,000 in unpaid hospital bills.

The money was raised after only 48 hours from when the call was made, and the patient was released.
