Security, Stillness, and Stability

My name is Doreen. I have never had the kind of experience I had at the Women’s Retreat. I am grateful, so grateful. I drove into Lakeside Escape, at 8:30pm blank in regard to expectation and yet full of several unsettling thoughts regarding my personal ambitions, work and workplace. I had so much negativity weighing on me.

Then, my first session the next morning, with everyone else, was about Grounding. The three Ss (Security, Stillness, Stability) were enough. I wished we had two more days to extensively talk about these three words. They have shaped the week that has followed that retreat. I keep identifying things that unground me and deciding how to handle them. I like the resolve in me. I love who I am steadily becoming. I have made resolutions that I am working on.

Depression in women is real and when women bravely enter the world of executive leadership, it is very challenging. That too, I learnt from the precious ladies I met at the Retreat. Admitting these challenges in the actual work world might be a sign of weakness and so many hide them determined to overcome somehow. Yet this is real. But as the saying goes in my language, “eibaare eryarebekire tiririkwita efuka” translated “a stone that is foreseen can’t destroy a hoe”.

Thank you CivSource.
