No More Financial Embarrassment by the Non-Profit Sector!
The WINGS Africa regional meeting held in May, 2025, brought together philanthropy leaders to confront the growing financial instability facing African civil society due to declining foreign aid, particularly from the U.S. The discussion, grounded in findings from studies by EPIC-Africa and the East Africa Philanthropy Network, highlighted the urgent need for African organizations to move beyond reliance on external funding by embracing local resource mobilization, building internal resilience, and acting on existing research. Speakers emphasized the importance of leveraging traditional giving, fostering African-led collaborations, and designing new, self-sustaining development models. CivLegacy Foundation echoed this call, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening Ugandan philanthropy through support for community-driven, locally funded initiatives that center resource-sharing as a catalyst for transformative change.
