Community Foundations - A key enabler for local philanthropy in Uganda.
CivLegacy Foundation is championing the growth of Community Foundations (CFs) as vital vehicles for unlocking Uganda’s local giving potential. While international philanthropy has long taken the spotlight, CivSource Africa’s research over the past seven years confirms that local philanthropy is alive, growing, and deeply rooted in Ugandan communities.
In March 2025, CivLegacy convened a grantmaking and resource mobilization masterclass at Protea Hotel for emerging CF leaders. The 2-day session equipped participants with practical skills to drive community-led grantmaking, build trust, leverage technology, and lead with purpose. Voices like Jeremy Maarman and Elizabeth Mbabazi emphasized community grounding, strategic collaboration, and transformative leadership as core pillars of sustainable philanthropy.
As CivLegacy builds a national movement around Community Foundations, it remains committed to offering technical support, mentorship, and learning spaces to strengthen civic engagement and devolve resources—and power—closer to the people.
