Thinking Legacy, Connecting Generations
At a deeply meaningful high tea event hosted by Hon Miria Matembe, we honored the legacies of the late Hon Joyce Mpanga and other revered leaders of the women's movement. Organized by CivSource Africa and Femme Forte, the event celebrated the contributions of women from different generations, from 81-year-old Hon Rtd Justice Mary Maitum to an inspiring 19-year-old activist, each sharing their visions for women's rights. Highlighted by Hon Matembe's compelling speech on the importance of intergenerational mentorship, the evening reminded us that we stand on the shoulders of giants like Hon Mpanga and the late Hon Cecilia Ogwal. The poignant candle ceremony connected us to our past, present, and future, reinforcing our commitment to continue their work and advance justice and dignity for future generations.
