Orphanage Donates to the Elderly

Philanthropy in Uganda simmered to the top during the coronavirus pandemic. CivSource Africa has since noted that a notable number of givers don’t have much themselves, but still choose to share the little they have. For example, despite needing help themselves, a group of orphans donated relief items to the elderly people in the Nsambya community.
The children who are members of Care for Children Uganda distributed sugar, rice, maize flour, and soap, among other things to the vulnerable elderly in the communities of St. Paul zone, Mugwanya Zone, and Nsambya West in Kampala City.
Speaking to The New Vision, the organisation’s director, Shafique Katende, said that the children birthed the idea themselves. He said that they saw it necessary to give back to the elderly so that other Ugandans can emulate them and give back to the vulnerable during dis COVID-19 pandemic.
"The children inspired me to extend help to the elderly, saying most of our aging parents have no one to look after them. So I had to lead them as they give back to their grandparents," Katende said.
Impressed by the act of kindness, 95-year-old, Tereza Nassejje applauded the children for the care and called for more able Samaritans to aid the elderly at a time when many were down to nothing.
Note that Care for Children Uganda is a community-based organization located in Ggaba, Kampala, and aims at helping, feeding, and educating displaced orphans.
