For six months now, tour operator, Joseph Ojatum and his friends have served over 3000 meals around Jinja City and surrounding areas. Before the coronavirus held the entire country at ransom, the youthful Ojatum occasionally dropped off a meal to his vulnerable neighbours. However, when the lockdown was announced, he witnessed situations that needed more than the occasional help he was already giving.

“As I walked the streets of Jinja, I couldn't help but notice the suffering of those who no longer had access to food and basic health services. My desire to lift my community out of poverty rose to new heights when the pandemic unleashed its harsh consequences on people.” Ojatum explained.

He gathered a team of friends and like-minded folks, and together they helped to dole out food and other necessities to those in need. Using their funds and donations from many generous people abroad, they set out to deliver food and supplies.

One thing that captured our attention to his efforts was he posted on his Facebook page that “Delivering much-needed food to a beautiful family in need! With 2 young children and 1 on the way, they could certainly use a sponsor to help them get on their feet with food, beds, maternity care, and such. Message us to help.”

The philanthropists say that, they are currently using their personal incomes and donations to bankroll their generous giving, but should they run out of the necessary incomes, they will reach out to more well-wishers out there for help.

Ojatum says that his zeal to help, is drawn from the inspiration he gets from the Bible. “If God had commanded me to do all things, I could do them. If he should command me that I should say unto this water, be thou earth, it should be earth; and if I should say it, it would be done (1 Nephi 17:50).”
