Abigail Disney Urges Donors to Be Braver About Giving
At the Elevate Prize Foundation’s Make Good Famous Summit in Miami Beach, renowned activist and philanthropist Abigail Disney called on donors and foundation leaders to lean into courageous giving. Speaking boldly, Disney challenged the philanthropic sector to speak up, take risks, and act, especially as fear and silence grip many in the wake of political and social upheaval.
“The people in philanthropy are the ones who need to be speaking up,” Disney emphasized, stressing that the risk for funders is far less than that faced daily by marginalized communities. She also shared plans to sunset her Daphne Foundation, joining others like the Marguerite Casey Foundation in shifting toward bold, time-bound giving.
Echoing this spirit, other leaders at the summit, from grassroots fundraisers to global movement builders, rallied around the need for community-driven action, courage in uncertainty, and philanthropy that refuses to play it safe.
