Hilton Foundation awarded more than $434 million in 2022

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has announced that it awarded grants totalling more than $434 million in 2022.

The largest grantmaking year since the foundation was founded in 1944 included more than $93 million in board-approved grants and program-related investments in the fourth quarter. Grants were awarded across the foundation’s program areas, including Catholic sisters, early childhood development, foster youth, homelessness, opportunity youth, and refugees.

The Refugees initiative was the fastest-growing program area, with the foundation awarding grants totaling $46.5 million through the initiative, more than doubling the $19 million it awarded in 2021. Recipients included Sesame Workshop, which was awarded $6 million in support of inclusion and belonging efforts aimed at refugee and migrant-hosting communities; Save the Children Federation, which received $3 million in support of its work to improve the lives and livelihoods of refugee children, families, and host communities in Ethiopia’s Gambella region through an integrated program focused on early childhood development; and Acumen Fund, which was awarded $2 million to support investments and provide technical assistance to refugee owner and/or refugee serving businesses in Uganda and Ethiopia.

“With a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional work of our grantee partners, we are privileged to have the opportunity to attain our largest grantmaking year since our inception nearly 80 years ago,” said Hilton foundation president and CEO Peter Laugharn. “We are thrilled to increase our investments across the globe, with a focus on supporting healthy early childhood development as well as livelihoods of people and families within the communities we serve.”
