GIVING DIGEST: A Swing for Change: Rotary Muyenga Fundraising Golf Tournament | Uganda Golf Club, Kitante
The Rotary Club of Muyenga turned the greens of Uganda Golf Club, Kitante, into a hub of purpose and philanthropy during its recent Fundraising Golf Tournament held on Friday. The event brought together 90 golfers, community leaders, and sponsors for more than just a game, it was a powerful show of collective action to improve healthcare and access to clean water in Mityana District.
Speaking as the chief guest, Bank of Uganda Deputy Governor Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba praised the sports sector as a significant driver of Uganda’s economy and social development. He emphasized how sports contribute to employment, tourism, infrastructure, and discipline. Prof. Nuwagaba personally contributed $1,000 to the cause, underscoring his belief in grassroots efforts and community-driven solutions.
The highlight of the fundraising initiative is the planned upgrade of Kabule Grade 3 Hospital to a Grade 4 facility, beginning with the construction of a 60-bed ward. The Rotary Club is seeking to raise UGX 600 million to make this vision a reality. Beyond the hospital, the Club also aims to construct deep and short wells to provide clean and safe water to surrounding communities and schools, critical infrastructure for long-term health and dignity.
Club President Edward Katimbo and past president David Balaka reiterated the importance of citizen-led development, highlighting the Club’s previous success in renovating the hospital’s maternity ward. They noted that while government plays a key role, lasting change often begins with the commitment of everyday people and organizations working together for the common good.
Rotary International has pledged to equip the upgraded hospital with modern medical facilities once construction is complete. The tournament served not only as a platform for fundraising but also as a reminder of the power of sports to unite people around a shared vision for a better Uganda.
If you missed this year’s tournament, there are still opportunities to contribute. Whether as an individual donor, corporate sponsor, or partner organization, your support can help Rotary Muyenga meet its goal and bring life-saving services to communities in need.
Give health. Give hope. Give now.
