MTN UGANDA DONATES E-WASTE TO MAKERERE FOR RECYCLING
Giving Digest: MTN Uganda has donated electronic waste (e-waste) worth Uganda Shillings 20 million to Makerere University's College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology for responsible recycling, reuse, and disposal. The donation includes 390 items such as monitors, desktops, and laptops, which will be refurbished and given to rural secondary schools to enhance ICT access and literacy. This initiative aligns with MTN Uganda's commitment to environmental sustainability and their focus on creating shared value in the communities they operate in. The partnership between MTN Uganda and Makerere University aims to address the challenge of e-waste management while conserving the environment. This donation comes at a time when the country is experiencing a rise in the importation of electronics, leading to increased e-waste volume. The collaboration between MTN Uganda, Makerere University, and other stakeholders demonstrates their commitment to sustainable e-waste practices and achieving environmental, social, and governance goals.
