“We have given out 28,291 food parcels to date – which would not have been possible without the kind support of everyone who has donated to our emergency appeal,”

The coronavirus-induced lockdown has been a season characterized by many outlooks. Generosity has been one of the highpoints we have seen in several parts of the country and the world at large.

Here on this platform, we have shared and continue to share these stories of generous giving during the Lock-down.

Another of these stories is that of a group of philanthropists with a footprint in child welfare, who made a plea to the public, to come together and help the vulnerable children in communities within which they live. The say that the lock-down saw a rise in the number of cases of children starving and malnourished especially in city slums.

The group, known as ‘Kid Club Kampala’, started a fundraising crusade, seeking for funding and help from well-wishers from within Uganda and abroad, to help feed families that were unable to find a meal.

Their appeal for help, was well received by many. They received donations in large volumes that have been distributed to about 25,000 families. “We have given out 28,291 food parcels to date – which would not have been possible without the kind support of everyone who has donated to our emergency appeal,” They declared.

“For those who are disabled or elderly or unable to access our food banks, we have been safely delivering parcels of food to people at home.”

Their team of volunteers has also been working hard to make sure that slums are more hygienic for the children and families within. And the club has installed 8 handwashing stations, which have enabled almost 60,000 people to access soap and water to help prevent the spread of the virus.

The thank every single person who donated and continues to do so, to their ‘Feeding Families: Emergency COVID-19 Appeal’. They say that they have been blown away by the support they have received, and the sheer numbers of people who have donated.
