With the current situation in the country and the world at large, I have teamed up with four more people to give a helping hand to the worst-hit people; those who have nothing to eat or hope of getting it tomorrow
Starvation is one characteristic that typifies the COVID 19 induced lockdown. Stories have been shared where many are hungry because they lack food to feed themselves and their loved ones. The people of Nsajja village in Fortportal, Kabarole district are some of those who have been affected and lacked food.
Many have struggled to access a meal to survive and they have appealed for help. The good news: Patrick Maylean a well-wisher rallied a call to his friends and well-wishers to join hands and reach out to the people of Nsajja and donate food to them. He toured the village and identified the more vulnerable groups of people there, from whom him and his friends donated to food relief items.
“Everyone is hit by COVID -19 differently. With the current situation in the country and the world at large, I have teamed up with four more people to give a helping hand to the worst-hit people; those who have nothing to eat or hope of getting it tomorrow,” Maylean lamented.
Maylean and friends said that while the urban areas had their fair share of people struggling to stay afloat, they would start with the rural areas. “As of now, we have managed to move to 10 homes in Nsajja Village found in Kyenjojo District and helped out with posho (maize meal), beans, and soap,” he said. “We teamed up to be able to gather more help for those starving. We couldn’t look on while our people die of hunger.”
However, it wasn’t enough and now the group is imploring more well-wishers to join them in their next food distribution efforts to the people of Nsajja village. “With your help, however small, we can be able to reach more people. It can save a life,” Maylean further appealed.
Despite allowing vehicles back on the road, the group says that some families in Nsajja Village can barely get the day’s meal. Life as they knew it has changed, and they will need all the help they can get.
