Some say music can raise someone's mood. Some say it gets them excited. Other say music makes them calm and relaxed. And yes, music is important because it allows us to feel nearly or possibly all emotions that we experience in our lives.
Many songs have been released during the Covid 19 pandemic. However, just like it did in several countries, the lockdown caused the loss of jobs to many in Uganda. But one social entrepreneur here, has opened a recording studio, in a bid to bridge the unemployment gap caused by the pandemic.
Kizebwana David Victor believes that his studio will propel a way forward for some of the recently unemployed youth. He argues that this is a time for reflection on what else the youth can do to survive.
“I have been graced with the opportunity to be a diversified skilled person not only in the area of information technology but professional musical skills too. In a time like this, self-employment is the way to go if we are to survive this,” he says.
This is the notion that birthed a project he calls, The Integrity Sounds Uganda.
The ultra-modern studio will not only be used to produce music but also be a vehicle of employment opportunities to the youth through production and other field activation drills, among others.
Kizebwana had initially intended to set up the studio for his personal projects as a producer. But when COVID 19 happened, he re-evaluated his decision; to help others cope with unemployment.
The studio is also intending to implement training classes for the various skillsets therein.
“First, they will carry out hands-on skills training; like playing the piano and then move onto other skills like deejaying” he explained. “This will also help in upgrading the creativity level of the artistes in ensuring that there’s good quality of music produced”.
The goal is to grow this into a big and trustworthy social business that will provide even more jobs.
He adds that since most studios are set and operating as home-based studios, the Integrity Sounds studio will be a business-oriented initiative with a long term goal of operating on a large scale, recording all kinds of music and discovering new talent.
