The hip-hop song titled coronavirus is laced with street language, a formal style that is known to sit well with the youth.

Bunyoro’s Wispa, Burnic MC, and Servant PRO have a coronavirus song out to sensitise the Banyoro on the deadly virus. The hip-hop song titled coronavirus is laced with street language, a formal style that is known to sit well with the youth. They are deliberate about what they want to communicate; without mincing words, the three artistes start the song with strong caution: Coronavirus is here. Stay home. Wash your hands.

They go on to emphasize just how pertinent it is for all to follow this advice as it will save lives. Soon, the rappers delve into a musical tale of how it all started and the reactions therein. They tell of the virus’ genesis from Wuhan China and how it was first dismissed as a rumour. They further narrate how this rumour would then be confirmed by international media outlets like Aljazeera and CNN.

Away from the narration, the group urges people to buy and use sanitisers while gently reminding those who can’t afford about the cheaper options out there. They rap about nutrition; advise people to eat garlic, food bursting with vitamins, and to drink lots of water. They caution against being in crowded places, shaking hands, and also insist that everyone adorn a mask at all times.

While the verses are in a typical hip-hop style, the chorus has a rhythm and blues (R&B) style to it. Catchy and easy to remember, the chorus is a repetitive call for all to join the fight against the virus. Penned in both English and the local dialect, Runyoro, the group sings:

All we

We can fight COVID-19

All We

We can fight C0VID-19

Twena

Tukusobora kurwanisa

Twena
